Personal Projects
Current sites
$tail -f findings.out - I update this blog the most by far. Most posts are on new Linux apps I find useful in system administration, programming, DBA and general computing tasks. In addition to this I like sharing new ways of doing things, helpful commands, and timer savers. Especially emphasized are Python, bash, and Ruby programming, as well as MySQL.
A Little More Land - A collection of nature photos, commentary on recent science news, reviews on science books, and articles on interesting and/or current topics of scientific interest to me. Haven't been keeping this updated.
The Future of Possibilities - a blog on technology and philsophy in general. I update it infrequently.
Coding Projects
In the process of learning what is becoming my favorite language, Python, I hope to create a number of programs that are not just of use in learning, but also to others. The list so far:
- Domainspotter - Planned project to find English dictionary words that are still available as .com and .net domains.
Thought
The primary reason that I created this site (and even more so my main site, ImmortalCuriosity.com), was to provide a place for me to make some of my thoughts and writings public. It has been a habit of mine from a young age to write on whatever topic interested me. While often being only short forays into a field or topic manifesting in a page or two of questions and considerations, sometimes they developed into longer investigations. I have a strong tendency to delve deeply into a topic once it enters my ken, study it intensely in proportion to my interest, and then shift to another topic for a time, usually returning later.
This has resulted in quite a dilemma, however. My writings (of varying quality) on academic topics go back to when I was in high school and before. They are located in journals, on disks, on scraps of paper, etc. Over the years I have tried to consolidate and codify them at various times, with varying success. This is why I created ImmortalCuriosity.com, to provide a place for me to display my writings, as well as easily link and categorize them, and provide a way for public commentary. While (as of 05/07) I have just started working on the current edition of ImmortalCuriosity.com, I hope to have a good amount of content there soon.
